WORK IT (FROM HOME)

I vividly remember the announcement from my firm to commence working from home,
which was back in mid-March 2020. In a way, it was sort of a bummer given that we had
just opened up our Surrey office and had big plans for its inauguration. But, of course,
given the COVID-19 outbreak, the decision to have the staff and lawyers work from home
was a prudent one. Though a bit uncertain about what working from home would entail,
I was excited at the same time. It meant zero commuting, more time with my hubby and
family, increased flexibility, custom working hours to some degree... the advantages were
endless. But, obvs, with anything in life, advantages come with a flip side.

Remote working required getting accustomed to less human contact, decreased sociability,
increased work on staying focused and on task, getting used to balancing the everyday at-
home distractions and the list can go on. But, let me confess, so far, so good. To maintain
some structure in my schedule, I do try to go into the office every 1-2 days per week.

So, that's my work story; hope your work and personal life aren't getting insanely affected
by the mad pandemic. I am sure you'd agree that some impact by the outbreak is inevitable,
but I also believe that the degree to which we let something affect us is in our control though
external factors can make exercising that control difficult. It's an ongoing lesson.

I will check in again in Spring 2021 for an update on my work life. Hopefully, by then things
have resumed back to normal. Talk to you soon. Until then, stay safe and stay healthy!

Love,

M.S.G.
